I think the OXbow is next, the only thing that is popular there is Taylors Refresher with the original Taylors down the road anyway. It was enivitable(sp) that Copia failed -- 1) bad location, 2) people want to eat not see a psuedo tv set, 3) C list chef stars. 4) Winter is tough for all tourist traps. 5)support of the locals 6) Wineries are the draw
I guess no one called the Gallo's Viansa in Sonoma and asked them about how that was going and all the money spent to save it...bottom line -- no one wants to go to a wine/food center, they want to go to a winery, walk the grounds, have picnic, then out for a nice evening dinner.

Like the mortgage companies, banks and auto industry, Copia is a victim of its own excess. Why do we need a food and wine center in wine country? Coals to Newcastle, indeed! Maybe it would work in San Francisco, or even NY or LA. Here, it is redundant and unnecessary.

The real problem here is that there wasn't a real plan for what the facility was FOR. The focus was on having a building, and what the building would look like. But was there a need? Was there a market? Was there even a purpose?
This is what can happen when a high-roller with money gets an idea, offers some cash and nobody dares to suggest that maybe the emperor has no clothes.
Can anybody say "Green Center"? Ruben's Folly is likely to turn out the same way.

Julia's Kitchen closed today, no notice to the staff as they show up and were told not to return, no compensation and no compassion to the individuals who were just told that they were employed through January 1...too bad for the Bad Management as a little communication would have been nice and respectful.

I'm sad to hear we're losing COPIA; really it's a wonderful and interesting place to send visitors that get 'wined-out' in wine country. Visitors and locals alike are always looking for something different! My only hope is it will be replaced with something that can appeal to everyone. What a gain for SF!

It was food and it was wine. It was not art. Maybe that's the problem.
