Oktoberfests 2009: Grab your stein

festgirl.jpgIt’s Oktoberfest time, and if you listen closely you can almost hear the oompa bands heralding in a month of beer, brats and sauerkraut. And though we’re wine-lovers by nature, it doesn’t take much to bring out our inner-lederhosen-wearers. Like an icy beer stein or two?

    Right on, Fritz!
Visited the Highland Dell in Monte Rio for the first time on a recent Monday – when they offer a “locals’ special dinner” – under ten bucks; I got out for under twenty with a great glass of wine, an excellent cuppa to accompany the delish dessert, and 20% tip to acknowledge the attentive, professional service… and am planning on checking out their October events.
Great food – all my veggie pals whined that the Dell is “heavy on the meat” – yeah, okay but it is NOT heavy handed…and did I mention the view?
The evening I was there, diners on the deck – alongside the River – were entertained by the antics of a seal who has taken up residence just a few yards away. If you come later and with the cool weather setting in, another diner assured me that the heaters really work..
Or! Skip the fresh air and sit in the picture window where you can still enjoy the scenery and – if it’s Autumnal – have the big, beautiful fireplace to keep you toasty…
Check out their October events in the Sonoma County Gazette: http://www.sonomacountygazette.com
(formerly the West County Gazette) – they are in the Shopping Tour Advertisers Index.
    Jawohl!!

If you are in Mendocino County, the Westport Vounteer Fire Department will host their annual Oktobeer Fest on Saturday October 17th from 2-8pm. They will be serving local microbrews, brats and bbq’d albacore. It’s a great community event that supports the fire department.

    Oktoberfest is actually over.
It is the 16 days leading up to the first Sunday in October.
Not that I’m gonna pass up the good food and beer, though.
