Patisserie Angelica retail closing

Patisserie Angelica’s walk-in retails shop is closing October 10, 2009. But it isn’t the end of the line for Sebastopol’s haute local bakery and (breathe) you’ll still be able to get your Buche de Noel and pumpkin cakes.

After mail-order purveyors like Dean & Deluca and WIlliams-Sonoma latched onto their high-end goodies, owners Condra Easley and Debbie Morris opened their own shippable cake operation, Let Them Mail Cakes. That portion of their business will continue on, along with special order wedding cakes, sculpted cakes and seasonal specialties, and owners say locals will still be able to order and pick up cakes locally by ordering online or by phone.

Need your fix? You can contact the Patisserie Angelica gals at letthemmailcake.com, or by phone at 707.827.7998. They maintain a facebook page, as well.

All right- I’m about done hearing about places going away. It makes me so sad! I get PA’s reason for going the way they did, but it’s such a bummer. Heather- can I request happy news? Maybe asking everyone what their favorite something-or-other is? Oh- for example: the new restaurant going into the old Saint Rose place. How’s that going? Can’t wait to hear!

Once a week should be the limit of my pastry consumption anyways. :)

Any word if they’ll still be at the farmers market?

Yeah, the phone number is up above.
Regarding eat_gator’s comment: Exactly. I’m actually pretty worried for a number of folks. The holidays can be fruitful, but i’m guessing a lot of companies are forgoing parties, etc., which are often helpful for restaurants. As January hits, I suspect we may see a flood of closures. The hopeful news is that places like Patisserie Angelica aren’t really going away — they’re just changing strategies to get through the lean times. That’s smart business and one hopes for a re-emergence when things get better. God, please let it get better soon.
