bethnightengale.jpgI would be remiss if I let the year end without taking note of the incredible bread baking happening at Nightingale Breads in Forestville.

nightengale2.jpgBehind the stove is Beth Thorp, a nurse (hence the reference to Florence Nightingale) who needed a change of scenery. She's honed her skills with the best, and is making some of the tip-toppiest whole grain breads, Forestville French baguettes and for the holidays, homemade panettone, an Italian egg bread studded with fruits.

I stopped in earlier this year for some of her amazing creations and was impressed not only with her bread, but with the incredible local following she's already built up.

The panettone is available the Wednesday and Thursday before Christmas from 11am to 6pm. 6665 Front St., Forestville, (707) 887-8887. Regular hours: 11-6 Wed thru Sat. Closed December 25th and 26th Jan 1st and 2nd.

Wanted to let everyone know the panettone is worth the trip
to Forestville. Since it's only a Christmas treat. Very yummy. Great toasted. Also makes a great gift.

FYI, Henweigh Cafe is open Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. Closed Christmas Day and New years Day (Jan 1, 2010)

Happy Holidays,
/Dennis

I'm gonna second the "need website" thing. It is hard to find updated info online.

Thank you Heather for highlighting Nightingale Breads, we residents of Forestville LOVE that we have our own bread joint! I call ahead to reserve bread because it goes so fast. Great Forestville French baguettes, great sourdough, GREAT wheat bread--all seedy and yummy! We'll need to stop today and try the panettone for sure.

About the web site, I don't think they have one (yet) as it's a new business as of this year but the phone number is 887-8887--it's totally programmed into my phone!

Wish that Nightingale Breads had a website. I think they used to according to chow.com bc they have a link to an old url that no longer works. I put in nightingalebreads.com and got "site under construction", but who knows if the owner actually owns it?
