Big news from the Healdsburg grapevine: Chef Rudy Mihal (formerly of Odyssey) will head the kitchen of the forthcoming h2hotel and bartending superstar Scott Beattie (Cyrus, Scopa) will be behind the bar.
The luxe eco-friendly hotel, which is a sister property to the Healdsburg Hotel, is slated to open in June.
It’s a welcome return for Mihal, who closed his Windsor restaurant last July in maelstrom of frustration. Though he’d hinted at the closure for months beforehand, it was a disappointment to many of us who saw the potential in Rudy’s culinary creativity and feared that Sonoma County might lose him for good. The good news: Like Cafe Saint Rose’s Mark Malicki, who has found a happy home at the French Garden, not having the strain of being both chef and owner may prove to be a better mix for Mihal.
Scott Beattie is the mixologist behind Cyrus’ stellar cocktail program and the author of Artisan Cocktails. For the last few years, Beattie has been working at nearby Scopa and consulting at Cyrus and a number of other restaurants, along with hiring himself out for luxe drinking occasions.
