After 27 years, yesterday was the final day for Narsi’s Hof Brau.
Owner Narsi Samii spent two years fighting an eviction from to 60′s-era Coddingtown Mall, which is going through major renovations and seeking out tenants with a larger draw. According to the Press Democrat, a proposed Whole Foods will open in the center next October. Restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory have been rumored to be possible fits for the new face of the aging mall. So far, however, there have been no official new tenants named in the restaurant category.
The impending closure has sparked mixed feelings from the community — long-time fans of the diner are lamenting it while others see an opportunity for something new.
Samii hopes to find a new spot for his restaurant and loyal following, but so far says he doesn’t have the financing or location to make that dream a reality.
What’s your take? Time to move on, or a tragic loss?
THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY
Narsi’s Hof-Brau Fights On

I believe you and I would get along just fine, Mark. Shoot me an e-mail if you’d like.
As for the topic at hand, martyrdom does nothing but enable stagnation and support the stunting of growth. That’s just food for thought.
People are entitled to their opinions Cathy. It’s called freedom of speech. It has nothing to do with “what our culture has become”. Some of the things that have been said about Narsi’s are harsh but don’t cry me a river about how being a restaurant owner is “thankless business”…I do technical support so miss me with the sob story. But if you’re a business owner and can’t take criticism then you’ll never get better and end up out of business.
Kathy : Thanks for encouragement understanding and appreciation of my business ,my staffs hard work and thier dedications, also special thanks to you your husband and many supporters like you that are helping me hold my head up at this time of hardship.
As i have been so consistent in my business for many years,I will try to bring to my tables ones who may have any question of me so i can even make more friends like you as i need them more than all the wealth in the word now and later after all We all know yes I did Bring Many,Countless to our tables, sorry my new land lord could not see that,I feel pity for them .but I hold my head high,up and keep on going just for you and yours that mean everything to me.
Thanks.
Narsi
My husband and I use to meet at Narsis for lunch. We knew what we were getting and didn’t expect Cyrus type food. People have loved going there for many years and unless you have owned a restaurant you don’t know what a thankless business it is. Narsi we would like to personally thank you for many years of hard work. For people to be personally attacking you here makes me wonder what our culture has come to. Hold your head high and don’t even respond to these small minded people. If they thought you were expensive I wonder where they eat.
Alan or Alan’s I said I am strong and confident enough to respond to every ones Questions as I have past few days ,I do like to ask you or whom ever replied to Alan “Spam but not like Mine” do not use My name Please to confuse the public as all the people that I have met in past 41 years they know me well enough that with out the dought in my mind they will never dought me and by slim chance if there was a gray area they would ask me directly as they know that i will tell them the truth just like ” DAN ” did ,so be brave use your own identity ,stand up and say what you want to say as I did in defence of all small business men for past 2.1/2 years.Doors to my Business may have been shot down by others ,but believe me I am still standing up for all of you so we all save our dignity as I have mine with me and doors of my real home that is my heart are always open to
you and yours.
Narsi.
alan is spam but not kind like i serve
I am so sorry Ann: I feel horrible that you had Such a bad experience in my long lived resturant, I wish there was a word to say and excuse my self but such a chill experience is not excusable Not even in my resturant that i always called Home, lived there to see you walking out with belly full and Big smile on your faces.rest assure your comment will make me a better business man and hopefully a better manager to keep my staff serving on you and yours well mannered and happy faces.
I owe you one.
Narsi.
Personally whenever we went there we were made to feel like we were putting the servers out when we ordered. Pleases and thank yous went unnoticed. While it was good food it wasn’t worth the chill that came from the employees.
First and foremost, I never said that I was not a supporter of a small businesses. I actually prefer smaller establishments. If you are really Narsi, you might remember, that about 1 1/2 years ago, we had an argument over a hair in my salad, and you refused to refund my money or remake my meal. No one has ever said that the cost of business is cheap sir. And you appreantly know that. From what I understand, you where not meeting your sales goal or traffic goal, one of the two. Now like I said, SPG is in the business of making money. If my store didnt make enough, I would be closed to, regardless of how long I have been there. Once again, I submit to you,no one knows the real story accpet you and your lawyers. But from my experiance, I can tell you that as long as your willing to pay, these lawyers will say anything that you want to hear. Not saying that your ignorant and didnt have a point, but you must have known that there would be an end game. And obviously the end game this time was the unfortunate eviction of your establishment. YEs I am sorry to say that the one bad experiance kept me away, and I wasnt a regular customer.
A reasonable person would assume that justice did prevail based on the information availible to them. Yes, its sad when someone losses their lively hood for one reason or another. And if you look around its been happening alot, to you as well as other.
That being said, I am convience that the large conglamerate won this round, but that doesnt have to be it. Leave an email address and i would be more than happy to continue this discussion with you.
Maybe you could look into taking on a business partner. Just a suggestion.
Here we go again so you know for what is right i do stand up.
I have been setting here since 9am it is 730pm,i do type with one finger and about 20 word a minute.for the general public hoping they may have some respect for the knowledge as the comes with maturity, practice and research.
the food is generally is expensive! one said.
how much do we pay for a good hamburger? $4.99 $5.99 $6.99? so on an average for 1/3 of lb ground beef +Lt,Tom we pay $6.00
Is $ 8.95 for 8oz serving of Fresh Roast of your choice, large scoop of mashed potato with generous amount of HOME MADE gravy Plus 5oz fresh steamed vegetable +(cranberry sauce/horseradish sauce )at your request, this makes afresh roast beef/turkey etc.hot plate including french sourdough or whole wheat bread with butter(as much as you can eat).too expensive? Hamburger $6.00 Vs. 8.95 meal/plate of fresh roast with all trimmings.
YOU calculate visualize and tell me if it has been over priced all these years.
Small Garden salad with all the topping and home made dressing $3.75 and when you have it with your meal is only $2.75
cup of home made soup (one of the few items i made money on to pay rent) $3.25 and 12oz Bowl $4.00 served with bread and butter as much as you want.( when you did have a bowl of soup with your meal I automatically took $.75 off
Dessert heights priced $4.25 ( large cut) down to $2.45 for home cooked all from basic natural ingridiant Custard.
Drink: coffee/tea bottomless 1.75 Bottled drinks from $1.59 to $2.95 Nantucket/rock star.Soda free REFILLS $1.89
24oz Lemonade/Iced Tea Or Arnold Palmer with free refills $2.25 to $2.45
Most expensive 9oz full glass of wine the best chardonnay $6.00
Off course when one orders: this that ,more of this ,extra cuts of meat etc,it all adds up, you pick the above items and tell for what you picked and what you can finish I was expensive.
yes I agree with you Hof -Brau food it is generally Bland and the reason is because we roast large pieces of meat and only salt and pepper to the outside fat/skin of the meat or poultry this is how you get to taste actual/real meat,
of course all condiments plus salt and pepper shaker is on your table and at your disposal to add as you wish ,and that is precisely and why general packages of catchup mustard and mayonnaise is available to you when you order your national food “hamburger”,please do not confuse the turkey that you cook and eat at home once a year on thanks giving with ones that i cook daily for your consumption ,recognize the reality of eating too much salt & spices your blood pressure will go through the roof if i cook you unhealthy food for your every day lunch.did you hear the recent news”Mayor of new York wants to order all eating establishments/Restaurant to eliminate salt and pepper shakers from all thier tables”. and yes i have been cutting back on salt added to all our food by good amount so you stay healthy and our senior citizens able to comfortably dine here.
yes the temperature of your food plate drops as you go through the line to get your drink and while you are enjoying you soup or salad first, many of our gusts have figured it out they com back the second time to grab their hot plate(meal) after they have finished thier first course.the rest is up to me to constantly tell the staff to dish out in a hot plate and for you knowledge i have been teaching my guests to remind the server they want thier food dished in a hot plate and we have progress to a point in that area of team work too.
over cooked meet yes and know a i do agree with you %100.but again just because all my food is cooked freshly each cook may have a different way of cooking or different desire as which dish comes out tastier when is Weldon don or when is fairly cooked ,as for the hof-brau section it should be consistently the same unless you walk in when the roast beef ending or turkey was turned 20 minutes ago and half way to the bone, but over all for your future knowledge
please look at the dis play ask question and then order the food it appeals you after all that is why i display all these food for your eyes daily.
Eviction is new to me some of us are used to it some not ,so you know this eviction was illegal and totally against the lease contract that i have with my land lords and per my understanding as several lawyers have told me so .why some one would stand up for me ? did not learn a lesson from president of this country when he stood up for the nation and pushed the best way he knew how even at cost of his own reputation, but we no longer have to have armed Gard’s on the bridges to watch out for us , that’s why i stood up because i saw one man is destroying the life of many and he can not tell me he did it to make your town a better town, where is he where is grocery store or department stores .this or another corporation is going to own you me and the rest of this city if we are deviled.
I was only once fired because i wanted too, every one and any one that I cross thier pads always appreciated me a respected me just because first I did every thing i was possibly able to do to respect them and appreciate what ever they were doing for me.unfortunately this situation along with my feeling toward the mall after these many years blinded me and made me forget the reality of this world and how it is changing more toward none of us liking.
Chris you said you only did eat here once and that is all it took ,this one time turned off or you became a regular? either way I am sorry that you are not a supporter of small business i cant say the same sorry I was told the small business is the back bone of this country and after 41 years having lived here and seen many large or small go down ,i have see it has been much harder for the big business to get back up with out the support of good uncle SAM but many small ones recouped and started running.
As for the location i can not agree with you more ,please tell me how a large business like this could transfer with no one funding it except his customers.Oakmont would be a great place for my business ,could you help me move.
Again the rumor must be true if you want to believe it ,where did you get the idea your Simon was going to pay anything at AL towered the location while he did get me committed to$550,000.00 to$650,000.00
with him pouting $200,000.00 in his own building so i relocate and two month later he even backed out on that as he did with your nordstrom and grocery store, where is the target so Simon can up the class of this mall( no offence to you target) I shop there all the time.
yes this stubborn old mule did not have enough money to relocate pay his attorney or keep roof over the heads of the family ,just because he did not believe in passing along his debits to you and your country men.it was enough that i took your jobs must you pay the debits I created,no sir I believe in hard work placing my kids in school and teach them how to pull thier own weight not becoming a burden to thier community they live in ,and this is not good enough for some out there there 10s of 1000s that will support me ,because they know me better.
lastly there was no winning or losing it was the matter of who is right and who is wrong, and if you would have stood by me and for me ,justice would not have looked the other way not seeing the truth of the matter.
i now am looking forward for these merging companies to make our Santa Rosa even more attractive and bring in lots of business for all,if you can get the word to them let them know i will be ready to help out any time they ask me too.
Okay, I submit to you that only Narsi really knows the whole scoop of what really transpired. If this is really Narsi let me ask you this. You do realize that Simon or Simon Property Group (SPG)as they are also known as, is the WORLDS largest Commercial property owner? They are into making lots of money and will do whatever it takes to achieve such goal. I really do fell sorry for you and your family, however, push comes to shove, you should have just relocated. Sure you would have had a new lease, but the future would have been alot brighter. Better luck to you in the future.
Wow….Well, Narsi I do appreciate you spending the time to lay that all out there. I feel like a complete A-hole now so I’m gonna take my ball and go home.
One thing can be said however. If you do open again and your following is faithful, I think you’ll do just fine.
Outstanding effort. I still don’t believe it’s Sir Narsi.

No Dan I am not going to CLICK HEAR to simply get rid of your opinion,as I committed my self i stay with you until you are satisfied with my explanation of the issue ,or you convince me that I was wrong standing up to Simon.
I will start to answer your last question 1st and go up,OK.here it goes.
1. How do you know that you speak the truth about me and my situation/conditions? unless you have seen/read all my issues! have you or just guessing?
2. It seems that you understand a little about how much it cost to put a business together, moving a gift store, shoe shop to a near by space takes a “FEW “$1000.00 dollars.
Moving a resturant with a magnitude of this hof-brau would take $750,000.00+ as per restaurant supplier back in October/2009,even with reduction of the space size into half !as I agreed with Simon in the court.Who wold pay this cost ?you? I gather you already complaining of my high prices! just imagine leaving $1.200,000.00 of your and your neighbors money behind and again build another resturant that you and yours will pay for through my menu with out a question, some body will pay for this cost, have you heard of the Fraze”pass the cost along”!that’s how businesses stay in the business,’Your payments”.
3. I do have a ROCK SOLID LEASE as I have had for past 27 years. Could you ask yourself how in the world this mall allowed Narsi’s existence while also they allowed him to expand from 2000 square feet to nearly 6000 square feet since 1983f they knew he is not making it or bringing traffic to the mall as Simon claimed,on an average until and even a year after Simon took over the property management of your mall I was serving 450 to 600 Guests on an average daily,on the average ticket $7.25,you can figure the rest/gross sales.
4, From Nov/2005 (Merger) until early 2007 Simon, his staff and every CEO from Dallas,Indiana etc were very appreciative of my establishment and complemented us for running such a tight and good operation ,they all ate there every day, some evenings and the man name Mark (Called OPENER/Host to this merger)many times complemented us and along with current manager of these mall invited myself and my wife to lunch 2-3 times ,it never happened due to us always being preoccupied with our business so we may serve up on you and Santa Rosaian,a year later October 2006 a man now called the boss to this operation at my request for discussing CAM and to informing me as plans Simon has for renovation/revamp/upper the class of this mall so I prepare my establishment for times they are going the construction and also discussion of the more service oriented dinner house (Type of resturant you sound like to dine in) added to Narsi’s,2ND story above,as it has been
on my agenda and the priority for past 20+ years With Mr. C and his enterprises,But the 1st words out of this young mans mouth(CEO to Simon property leasing)was :
DO YOU NEED SUCH A LARGE PLACE,? A year later he gave me a 30 days notice of eviction and when I approached him ,he said He wants My Restaurant ,he wants to put his OWN resturant like cheese cake factory, and HE DOES NOT WANT TO PAY FOR IT ! this statement along with statement of another CEO from SPG who was very in favor of my Hof-Brau “WE ARE NOT IN BUSINESS OF PAYING ANY ONE” when I approached him to intervene, made me stand up for the neighborhood and get some answer, the answer in the court of law on the stand under oath by both the CEO and the area Manager was” WE were told Some national chain had eyes on Narsi’s Hof-Brau location, find a way to take this place!( it is in the court records) look it up for yourself.
While you are at it see that none of the members of codding said anything against this business or its lease.
That is why they picked on me for the location Mr.C Leased to me to better &save his recently enclosed mall, For the location I my family my staff during the years hard work along with all my customers loyalty and investment.
5. I have never doubted that ANY of our eateries in CTM or in this CITY are any thing but the best after all we live in wine country and a good wine must be accompanied by best food.,I wish well and more business for all restaurants in Santa Rosa,I live here too! do not forget that.
6. MR. C. never made any side deals as I attest to that Mr C is a man that during his working curries was open .forward and had nothing to hide,if his bravery for being the first to take the risk or one who jumps through the whoop makes some say differently there are many that can stand up tall for him, just look around you, one can tell this man worked hard to build this city and next so we have places to work and houses to live in, didn’t he put roof over my head so i can cook 2 meal for you in past 27 years,he never increased my rent during the years of my business leas even though we amended and add addendum to original lease 7 times( i was paying 1.2 /in 1983 and the same $1.27 in 2005), only because he and I shared the same vision,Bring in traffic he said and lets work with smaller profit margin, and I did agree with him as my past experiences in county of Marin ,San Francisco, and San Jose in same or similar business had approved many
times over with:simple food decent price and consistency the business will succeed, and this town has seen it over and over in this Hof Brau.Mr C. Had the vision as I did to flood Coddingtown mall with my patronage and I did just that for him with no regrets and will do it again with out any hesitation or question asked, past managers of this mall will speak of this
Just to be fair to every one ,David Simon may be a good man just as good as Mr C. if he knew me and my business I bet my $ that he would have never destroyed any good long lasting business that produces incom and generates tax $ for the city ,putting roof over man’s head(just so you know at one time Your Hof-Brau employed 26 of your neighbors which you and I did not have to pay extra taxes so they survive) you might right this one down for you and yours for years to come,it might help the new generation go forward” creating revenue by increasing tax dollar on public it is safe only to a point , “It is the existence OF generator OF tax dollars ” that keeps community alive and lubricates the wheels of economy”.
7. How much you know about the history of this mall and for past 27years I included i do not know.
Simon wants to accommodate for some changes,Says Dan .
Why do you not sell everything you have and give it Simon so he does not have to barrow your tax dollars from the city you live in while this city is in red.how does that make you feel? be honest.
I did not mean to be so shroud, sorry . If Simon would have asked me to move or close down the business so he may come in smoothly and revamp the mall, I WOULD HAVE! just telling one to give up his lively because he/she wants it, I Do not believe that you would approve of it and would grab your baseball bat defending me.
If any one Say’s Narsi is not for a better mall ,better business in this city just tell them talk to me so I can show them the Changes that I feel being a pioneer in CTM and improvement with in this mall has happened since 1983 ,that as I said: I and my Customer have been a Major contributor to them.
Now tell me Is this Giant in a business of making money in a decent honest American way or it is in a business of robin peoples livelihood and keeping it, you must have read, heard or seen the story of Robin Hood, compare the two and tell me is Simon here to build us a better Mall or he is nickle and dimming us daily? Do not forget to look at the sister mall across the Freeway and years this company has owned it and managed it.
Dan tell me do you really want in this day and age live in the bondage,we are in the 21st century and educated enough to understand with fighting we get no were teaming together will get us both up to the moon,do not make mistake I was not Fight Simon Malls I was protecting my rights under a contract i was obligated to ,he won cheating! and now you know how SPG does business to make his money,Blood Money like my blood.
8. This one did heart Dan and because i have seen many many people during my Currier I have become a judge of character and a good one,so with in regards to your comments about my type of the food ,heating lamp ,charging elderly easily!
I do like to guess that you either never worked in a resturant or was a restaurant that folded because you were assuming soon as you open your doors $dollars$ will pour in and you can sit aside and enjoy the profits,Ha : Am I right ? No it does not work That way.
Have you any Idea How hard it is to get up 362 days a year every day and go into commercial kitchen believing you have company (a large Number) and must have food ready for them, and Awry of them.
I used to start cooking at 4am in SF so I can Open the doors at 11am,in this mall I or my trained cooks were allowed in the past to get in 6am open @11am,years later we were not allowed to enter the mall before 8am and had to open at 8am /Break fast and 11am for lunch, place is 3 times larger and there was a day that I served 1000Guest.
besides bakery items everything you think of is prepared in my own 3 large kitchen ,no salads, sauce, soup gravy or roasts is precooked or brought in from out side kitchens,if you still did not get it yet, just remember the time you were on vacation and did go to the buffet break fast filling up your dish and tray and left 1/2 of at the table with out thinking some one worked hared to make/cook this food, just remember the napkins you wasted some body pays for it,yet you did like to go back again and again on next trip .
my staff have been putting up the remedy/display for you for pas 41 years not a day missed, could you do that,i did that in this mall 27 years for you could you through parties like that daily at your home for us we will pay you for it.
that is true now you are beginning to understand my pain ,Simon took my home away and cut my legs off so he makes money and pass a bit of it around and keep most for him self how do you really think he became the sole owner of nearly 600 mall/properties around the Globe,(good management, Ha).
that is why men who built this city they call m e and institution just like you said years of constantly hard work .
you asked about the service ,did you ever thing why Codding town Mall never built a food court?
yes after I and you came in there was no need for a food court,i gave the mall nearly everything public wanted to consum as they would in a food court and you gave them the patronage mall needed.so to clarify my food was not only kept under the heat lamp, that was the display and quickly dished out food prep area that you briefly saw ,and the rest of crew were preparing more for consumption of the others yet to arrive.
9.Elderly did became my major supporter of this business as Santa Rosa was known for having many senior citizens occupying this city respectfully, too bad that i can see it clearly that our big business men has lost the respect they once had for both seniors and residents with disability.
Just for your own records ,in 27 years the department of health only had one complaint from a woman claiming
getting ill from my turkey dinner immediately! it was cleared by the same that it was over eating including cream pie and Salad and custard,my food never made any one sick as i do prepare everything on sight.
During the years Many seniors have called me and made statement to me the reason the repeatedly come back to my place in Coddingtown is because they do not get sick after they eat my food and when they go home ,most elderly were happy to dine in kitchens because for the money they were spending ,once a day they were receiving a very significant food value that thier body needed, and i am proud to state this issue.
10, lastly you want me to give you a proof of the proposal that Simon has claimed to have made to relocate me>
Do you remember the time I gave the Restaurant to them for a $1.00 and they did not take it,and judge did ask me to
reconsider the decision (august of 2008 Press Democrat),if you look up the recent news you will see that i am being blamed for the mall improvement not going forward, while they claim I have tried to extend and continue the trial over and over and over and over it is in the court documents,if you have been into the mall you will see how it has been falling apart just because Simon micromanaging his properties that with all my heart if they have knowledge and wisdom do so i am all for it, Not spending any of payments to them for maintenance by all merchants to keep up the mall it is inexcusable although i give them some rights to not over spend of this budget just because sooner or later they have to revamp ,ask your self why is Simon increasing these fee on the merchants.
11.yes in the court we all agreed subject to the approval of the land lord to be relocated in a dead spot which I choose, Rent,Cam etc were all agreed on knowing the cost of the construction of newly build Hof-brau in a size of 1/2 of current space is $750,000.00 to $850,000.00 with landlord investment of $200,000.00 and narsi’s investment of $550,000.00 to $650,000.00 with land lord approval.
Over a month later with out having heard from land lord if they OK ed or not of attorneys agreement and my approval in the court, Simon sent me a lease that they have the right to RELOCATE me from the newly built Hof- Brau(costing $750K-$850K)any time they touch rebuilt or modify they mall in any location,(Keep this in Mind)
Fine I said but it is in the same that they Relocate again at tenant cost. and later e mailed my attorney that they are not willing to par from thier agreement and two months latter in court with out any adjustment to this leased Simon told the Judge Narsi does not sign the lease so we can move on.
Dan would you buy a Car Knowing after few years once you paid for it they take it away and you must buy another one.and remember this is your car and your money in my case public pays for the resturant through the cost of thier meal daily like any other business ,would you have allowed me to sign that lease .
That is why i had to stand up for you me and the neighbors.
I know only have given the words for proof but any time if you or any one else in this county wanted to physically see the evidences let me know.unfortunately our justice looked the other way.
12.yes this is the real me.

C. never made any side deals as I attest to that Mr C is a man that during his working curries was open .forward and had nothing to hide,if his bravery for being the first to take the risk or one who jumps through the whoop makes some say differently there are many that can stand up tall for him, just look around you, one can tell this man worked hard to build this city and next so we have places to work and houses to live in, didn’t he put roof over my head so i can cook 2 meal for you in past 27 years,he never increased my rent during the years of my business leas even though we amended and add addendum to original lease 7 times( i was paying 1.2 /in 1983 and the same $1.27 in 2005), only because he and I shared the same vision,Bring in traffic he said and lets work with smaller profit margin, and I did agree with him as my past experiences in county of Marin ,San Francisco, and San Jose in same or similar business had approved many
times over with:simple food decent price and consistency the business will succeed, and this town has seen it over and over in this Hof Brau.Mr C.

12.yes this is the real me.
Narsi.
Okay there are just a few facts that people need to know about Narsi’s Hof-Brau. So here we go, the food is generally over priced, the food is almost always bland, the food is almost always cold, and over cooked. This type of eviction happens every day, every where…Why would any want to fight to save Narsi’s? Honestly I only ate there once and thats all it took. Yes, the best location for this buisness would be Oakmont, and only Oakmont. Yes the rumors where true…This establishment could have been relocated over 2 years ago, within the same mall, with Simon covering most of the cost. THE STUBBORN OLD MULE GOT WHAT HE HAD COMING. Oh By the way Mr. Narsi Samii, hope you enjoy the legal bills you could never afford, fighting a fight you could never win. Enjoy BANKRUPTCY
Are you drunk or something?
I don’t like to kick a man while he’s down but if this really IS Narsi, then all I have to say is please stop making yourself out to be such a martyr. If Simon was bold faced lying when they said they offered you different spots in the mall, please prove it. An “institution” is a place that was built on great service AND great food over time. And from my experiences (2 to be exact) at your restaurant, neither applied. It’s easy to charge the elderly for food kept under a heat lamp but many folks just don’t go for it. I’m sorry.
All I see is a company (Simon)that is in the business of making money trying to accommodate a change. And if you want to blame anyone, blame “Mr. C” if you guys had a special deal on the side. Not Simon.
There are other eateries in Coddingtown that have gained a good buzz for serving quality, inexpensive food with good service. Why were they picking on you? If you didn’t have a rock solid lease on THAT spot, then roll with the punches and move to another area in the mall. Bizarre Imports did. I know they’re not a restaurant but they’re still in business.
All you sympathizers feel free to lemme have it! But I speak the truth.
No one next to Mr.C.likes this mall to be improved more than I do! you have seen 25+years Me and Mine have put into this mall with your supports and financing just because back in 1983 I committed my self not to be a absentee owner!( do you hear Ed.)I have been there for you 24/7 year around.
if you sincerely believe i could have relocated with terms of the Giant! ask me I will show(Not Just Tell)you why It was not Possible! Our Justice did not ask me,justice Believed this is not possible.
You have been promised Rose Garden! for past 12+years on both sides of the 101, bring me a rose when you go there.
If you believe I Should have walked away(when I am in the rights)!Do you sincerely like to have a wimp for neighbor? Remember Back in 1983 Main Entrance to mall was by Emporium.
With your Financing My Efforts and Mr.C’s Vision, Main entrance to this mall was moved North and stayed, where you have been eating for 25 years.why?
Together we removed the trash bins in front of the Thrifty which there were still there Even after closure of the mall until I came in.Who did clean up?
I was asked “why are you coming in so dressed up?) be comfortable, I replied
It is just a way I dress up to the Business Meetings.I was told this past year: do not be so sophisticated Narsi!
Do you rather me have operated a dump for your eating establishment or the one its been called “institution to this town, or Anchor to this mall” by many that you respected for years and have Kept this city together fore decades
No matter what I made many and many friends among you people of Santa Rosa ,county of sonoma and Surrounding counties, and makes me the richest man in the world.
Regards.
Narsi
I just for the life of me can’t understand why a restaurant in a side corridor of an abandoned (and creepy) mall didn’t make it.
The food and service would have to be really something for a place like that to survive, from the comments posted I guess it wasn’t.
“Big chains” didn’t drive out Narsi. Being stuck in the past and serving subpar food drove out Narsi. Oakmont for Narsi Part Two is a great idea!
I’ll make the point again. It’s funny that a GOOD “family owned” establishment like Traverso’s can move completely across town and not lose any business…They actually GAINED business. If you are a quality establishment, the people will follow. I always said Narsi’s should move to somewhere near Oakmont since that was most of his customer base. And that’s in all seriousness.
It is simple economics, folks. Supply and demand. Narsi’s supplied a product the general public did not want. Stop blaming the “big, evil, corporate giants” and start looking at the bigger picture. Please use your head, people.
Every time I ate there I would soil my shorts. I asked Narsi to replace my adult diapers but he didn’t care because the food looked the same regardless of which end it was going in or coming out.
Good Bye Coddingtown Mall-
Or ANY MALL!
My doing business with this corporate conglomerate is done with. The malls are against private, locally owned business.
That is what is killing our local economy.
I Urge you to not shop in corporate conglomerates…ie Safeway, WholeFoods etc.
It is Wholefoods behind the Narci evasion….a local merchant.,
LOCAL business is my only choice.
Buy Local, Shop Local.
Not sorry to see Narsi’s Hof Brau close. Ate there once a while back and was shocked by the bad quality and service!Lots of other local business within Coddingtown that take pride in their product.
It was a great place 10 years ago when I was a teenager working at JCPenney. I’ve been unimpressed every time I’ve eaten there in the last few years. I usually would just go to Sweet River.
We ate there about a year ago. Food was okay but service was not. There were several people behind the counter but we didn’t get our food until 20 minutes later. There were few customers there at the time so it’s not like they were busy.
here is my challenge to the SoCo restaurant owners. most especially with the economy, your meal you’re charging for has to be better than what i can make @ home. since time’s been tough, i’ve been getting better and better in the kitchen. don’t know when i’ll have munny enough to dine out in SoCo, but when i do watch out because now i’ll be even more critical than i was before. seeing as how i’m putting out some pretty darned edible meals myself now. your move, SoCo restauranteurs.
Most definately a tragic loss. Family businesses are becoming rarer and rarer these days and losing “Narsi’s” is sad. My husband and I were always treated like family when we went there to eat and Narsi was always there welcoming and cheerful. We liked supporting a local family owned/ran business and I hope Narsi is successful in reopening in an even better location in SR than the run down old Coddingtown. It’s a ghost town there so maybe his relocating will be a blessing in disguise finacially for him and his family. We hope he can recoup some or all of the legal fees in his next trial. We’ll be there with bells on when he reopens!
I am really sorry to see Narsi’s going out of business for the food and staff were great! I always felt that I was treated like family there and will miss them. I do know that when one door closes another one will open and I am hoping the best for Narsi and family.
No sympathy…As stated he could have moved to another place in the SAME MALL. Instead he blew hundreds of thousands of dollars on an attorney who quite comically said in a recent interview “I plan to fight tooth and nail” (in more or less words)…Yeah cause you’re getting paid alot. Meh.
And NOW he doesn’t have enough money to move anywhere else. Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out. Just my 2 cents.
The only person who is responsible for “forcing out” Narsi’s is Narsi himself. Had he been holding onto a product that the majority of Sonoma County wanted, Simon would have had no reason to intervene. AKA, the restaurant would have generated enough foot traffic and revenue to warrant the restaurant’s stay. However, the opposite was the case.
I tried it once. The food was not worth paying for. Nice doesn’t keep you in business, value does. So it goes…
How Sad … no more family style dinners while doing my Christmas Shopping in Coddingtown. In fact, there will be NO MORE shopping in Coddingtown. The only way us “little people” can voice our opinion. See you in Bankruptcy Court Mr. Simon.
That has been Simon’s plan all along, ever since buying out the majority interest in Santa Rosa’s Other mall — force out the locally owned stores (starting with the Koffee Klatch back about 4 years now), in favor of the big corporate clients with (purportedly) the big pocketbooks.
They own the electoral process, why not the shopping process as well?
It is, indeed, a shame that a locally run business has closed its doors. However, in the case of Narsi’s the general public spoke overwhelmingly by not eating at the restaurant enough to keep it running.
The Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, and the like are what is needed to help revitalize Santa Rosa. However, I do believe these restaurants can coexist peacefully alongside other locally run restaurants such as Mary’s Pizza Shack, et al.
Hello, Progress!
He was given plenty of opportunity to move the restaurant to another space in Coddingtown and chose not to. This was a decision that HE made… Simon did not force him out – they offered relocation and he chose to throw his money away on attorneys for a losing battle. Had he relocated, we would be reading an article about the reopening of Narsi’s at it’s new location.
When I first moved to Santa Rosa, I ate lunch there – overpriced and the food wasn’t that good. Gave it another try about 6 months later; the service was terrible. Local businesses are not the best tenants in the eyes of the big shopping center owners; therefore they usually are the first to go in bad times (Coddingtown is really hurting these days).
I’m sorry to see that narsi’s is closing. Narsi and his family are wonderful people . it’s sad to see big bussiness push out the family bussiness.
The only reason I went to Coddingtown was for Narsi’s turkey dinner and bread pudding.Hopefully he can reopen a new location soon! As for Coddingtown I will take my shopping elsewhere!
I will NEVER!! shop at Coddingtown again. Here we go, big business pushing out the little guy once again. I feel so sorry for this family of wonderful people and just hope they find peace. They fought the good fight and had a lot of support from the community. We will miss them.
Even though I rarely patronized Narsi’s, I am sorry to see a local business forced out, especially if the rumors are true about a Cheesecake Factory or other national chain coming in.
