Is Gaga gaga for Sonoma?
Singer Lady Gaga was spotted at two Sonoma County restaurants over the weekend — Geyserville’s Catelli’s Restaurant and The Girl and the Fig in Sonoma,
Visiting Wine Country with boyfriend Taylor Kinney, Gaga supped on Catelli’s legendary 10-layer lasagna, kale salad and the Rabbit Bolognese Saturday night. For dessert, staff created a treat that featured the words, “We Heart Gaga” written in chocolate. A kitchen tour and several pix with staff and visitors were icing on the cake.
Catelli’s co-owner Domenica Catelli has been consulting with Gaga’s parents, Joe and Cynthia Germanotta, on their new Italian restaurant, Joanne, in NYC. A friend of co-owner, Art Smith, Catelli spent New Year’s Eve at Joanne, where she met Gaga.
“She is so awesome. I have a great relationship with her family and her mom. They’re a very loving Italian family,” said Catelli.
When Gaga asked where to go the following day for lunch, Catelli sent her to Sonoma’s Girl and the Fig.
There, she and Kinney dined on mussels, beet salad, fig salad, a Croque Monsieur with egg, steak frites and a Fig Kiss cocktail late Sunday afternoon. Word is she and Kinney sat at the bar and ordered several cocktails, including a special concoction made with blood oranges.
The county’s abuzz with rumors that Gaga could be house-hunting in the area, but insiders are keeping their poker faces on this one.

Sure hope the local media doesn’t blow this for us … I’d like to have her here, but not if the scene-makers go all spazz about it. “Let’s watch her every move and report on her every bite” — um, no thanks. Imagine your house being where you go to unwind. Then think of our community like that.

It’s easy to blame us, but here’s the deal. Celebrities who do not want people to know they are here are protected by the restaurants and hotels and we never know about it. There is an understanding and I respect that. It is rare for chefs to even tell me off the record and I’ve pretty much stopped asking. It hurts the restaurant’s reputation if celebs know they’ll be “outed” at certain places.
Both Catelli’s and Girl and the Fig posted pix to their Facebook pages after the fact and were excited to let us know Gaga was here. So we played it up. They wouldn’t talk to me unless they got the okay from Gaga. Don’t kill the messenger, baby.

Historically, when people such as Ms. Germanotta visited the 707, the locals would give the celebrity their space and not go all TMZ. I would hope, if her Ladyship decides to buy a place in Sonoma County, the locals would extend to her the same treatment.

Right on Domenica Catelli! Finally, some very cool people frequenting Sonoma County restaurants! Hope she ate for free. Do you know what she has done for kids and adults in the realms of bullying and mistreatment all over the world?! How much she has done with her time and energy to speak up for those who are not treated fairly? She is an advocate for peace and kindness and I for one welcome her anytime she wants to visit Sonoma County and do her work here! She would be welcome to visit any of our Safe School Ambassador schools here in Sonoma county any day!!!! Bring it girl!
The quietness theory is kind of hurt by the fact that going our for lunch ended up in a news article, but it could be worse.
I’d say pretty quiet compared to having paparazzi jump out from bushes at you. Writing about it long after the fact kind of keeps the peace while letting us locals have a little thrill at our celeb eat-by.

Nobody cares about Lady Gaga except her publicist, her personal banker, her legion of makeup and dress “artists,” and the people who write her “music” for her.

I’m a 51-year-old guy, love Neil Young, not very interested in Ms. Gaga, but I know this much: a) a *lot* of people care, and b) she writes her own music – she had a track record as a songwriter even before she started performing as Lady Gaga.
Pick up the phone, dial information and ask “WHO CARES?”
I honestly thing Gaga will be a great asset to our communities here in Sonoma County! This is the perfect place for her to get to be who she is, and still get (what I’m sure is some much needed) peace! =)
the fact most of the time no one knows when celebs are in town (and restaurateurs protect their privacy if asked) speaks to the county.
