Wild Foxx

burger.jpgJust a quick hit on the new Santa Rosa coffee shop/diner, Wild Foxx. It’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect to pop up at the former Baker’s Square — breakfast all day, pies and cakes in a refrigerated case up front, a massive menu with everything from burgers and French dip sandwiches to rib eye steak, chicken marsala and shrimp scampi. (See my earlier post on their naming woes)

I’ve only had a chance to do lunch so far, ordering up a solidly cooked (if a bit greasy) cheeseburger and fries. Certainly not the best burger ever, but far from the worst. Respectable, plate-eclipsing diner fare at a reasonable(ish) $8.25. My server was bright and bubbly, the service quick and things seemed clean and orderly.

Expect to rub elbows with plenty of the senior-set at lunch — on my visit the over 65-crowd was well-represented (okay, I felt downright youthful) — and families in the booths. Kid-friendly grub (meaning lots of fried comfort food from mozzarella sticks to potato skins) is in plentiful supply. Closest local comparison: Adel’s.

Wild Foxx Restaurant: Breakfast, lunch and dinner, 1350 Farmers Lane, Santa Rosa, (707) 544-8117.

I DISAGREE WITH THE PEOPLE WHO SAY SERVICE WAS NOT GOOD.I GO THERE AT LEAST 4 TIMES A WEEK ON MY WAY TO WORK OR ON MY WAY HOME. I THINK THEY HAVE THE BEST SERVICE [SO FAR] THE MANAGER CHECKS ON EVERYONE THEIR EMPLOYEES VERY HELPFUL AND THE FOOD IS VERY GOOD I THINK EVERY ONE SHOULD TRY ANY NEW RESTAURANT AT LEAST 3 TIMES. WE ALL KNOW IN THE FIRST MONTH ALWAYS THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS CAN GO WRONG . I`M HAPPY WHEN EVER I GO THERE.

I had high hopes for this place since it is close to home. I have been there twice, the first time was for lunch. My burger too was overdone and the bun was dried out, but the fries were good. The second visit was for breakfast. Can’t understand why they don’t serve potatoes with the omelettes?? So. I ordered the “Wild Wrap” which was very plain. I suffered severe food poisoning for the rest of the day but could not for sure blame it on the breakfast. Both visits the service was VERY slow. Don’t think I will be going back. I much prefer Adel’s. It’s way better.

Assume these aren’t the same folks as the owners of Wild Fox in Novato. If not, too bad they didn’t register the name in both counties. Brand confusion will not help the Novato restaurant, which is not an all-day-dining coffee shop type place.

Yes, yes- I know in my haste (next time I’ll try the preview button) I made minor grammatical errors. Oops.

Since I ate at Wild Foxx within 3 days of eating at Adel’s, the two menus seemed strikingly familiar (I could order the same item at Wild Foxx that I got at Adel’s- my husband could do the same thing). I’m taking a wild guess- same owner’s (I was going to ask, but it seemed to obvious at the time). Since I didn’t order the same item ordered earlier at Adel’s I couldn’t make a 1-1 comparison, but I essentially could equate the two as relatively the same- decent.

I ate breakfast here a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. There was WAY too much food, but for under $8 I got eggs, home fries, toast and pancakes. Along with coffee that was always promptly refilled. It is a total diner, but I felt the food was better than Adel’s. A total greasy spoon with lots of menu options and reasonable prices.
