Patrick Tafoya taking over Saint Rose spot

p30.jpgOn the good news front…

Chef Patrick Tafoya, the young chef who’s garnered some serious buzz at the Duck Club Restaurant over the last year, will be opening a new restaurant in Sebastopol in November.

The ink’s not even dry on all the papers yet, but Tafoya told BiteClub that he’s had his eye on the Cafe Saint Rose location for several months — good news for fans of the roadhouse location on Bodega Highway.

The restaurant will be called P/30, and will feature “chic, cheap comfort food” — think fried chicken and waffles with strawberry jam (see the video I made of Patrick making fried chicken a while back) or house-made burger with homemade pickles on a brioche bun. And he walks the walk when it comes to backing local purveyors like Gleason Ranch

“This is my breakout solo project,” Tafoya told BiteClub. He’s given notice at the Duck Club, ending his time there in early October. It’s a challenging time for starting a new biz, but Patrick says his stint in Bodega has been a good education in business side of running a restaurant.

The restaurant will be open for dinner only at opening, but Tafoya’s well-aware of the need for a brunch spot on the way to the bay, and plans to put it under consideration.

Follow the restaurant-opening adventures of Patrick on his blog, restaurantp30.blogspot.com.
And stay tuned to BiteClub for ongoing details.

Just what our neighborhood needed. We live in Sexton Valley and have watched all the iterations of this restaruant come and go. Hopefully P-30 will be around a long time. The food is wonderful and inexpensive (chic and cheap). I had the Mac and Cheese (the best ever) and my hubby the Fried Chicken and waffles (amazing). We are so glad to have a place like this is Sebastopol.

We live very close to 9890 Bodega Hwy and have enjoyed Marys and St. Rose (not as much) for years icluding Sunday brunch. We like having you close in case we eat too much, it’s a very short drive, have been to the Duck Club quite a few times, the food was outstanding, hoping the food will as tasty and oh yes! cheap, that would be great.

I have traveled this road for over 40 years. I’ve seen them come and go. This one will try – this one will go.
    Hope springs eternal!

Oi … Lord knows I am so tired of those folks who just want to nay-say and just say they are being honest.
See you opening night Patrick and Christine.

Exactly what is needed on the hwy to and from Bodega. Quality food at a reasonable price. I’ll be seeing you often on my way home from work. Take care, and thanks for all your great work. You will be missed!

Way to go P30!! Wishing you nothing but succes with your grand opening and journey. With what I hear is some talented cooking and your wifes marketing brains, you guys are bound to see the fruits of your labor. Don’t listen to the glass is half empty people, go with your gut.

cheap, chic comfort food… the place could work if the food lives up to the description… and best if it’s as local and organic as possible… the trick will be to make it cheap… too many sonoma county restaurants are way, way, way too expensive… it makes one think twice about visiting a restaurant when you know dinner will be at least $50/head… chloe’s is a great model for an out of the way location that has a great following because the food is delicious, creative and cheap! you can do it and i’m looking forward to, i hope, many dinners there

One would have to wish any fool the best of luck, yet one’s food and rep will always follow you. A duck club-esque menu won’t fly unless you adapt to the local scene, like it or not. . . Pour beer & wine well & stay consistent
    Buena Suerte, Partner.

“Luck does not have anything to do with the success of a restaurant and most times neither does location.”
You have never been in the “hostility” industry if you think that is based in anything but fiction. Location is everything, period, location is more than a where thing, it’s a does this work here thing, Underwood works and built a loyal cliental during a time of spending, right now it is a lot harder to build that sort of following with people eating out far less. Luck may be in the details (the food writer not coming on the night you are short two people out front and things are chaotic) but I can tell you a little luck is a beautiful thing, in the case of a review it is make or break for your dreams of success. This is a bold move and I hope it does well.

I can’t wait for the P/30 to open! Restaurants have had a difficult time at this location, but the with the right people and the right menu I think it can thrive. The menu sounds fantastic and Patrick Tafoya is extremely talented so I know they will do great. See you there!

Luck does not have anything to do with the success of a restaurant and most times neither does location. I remember thinking that Matthew was nuts to open Underwood out in Graton – my bad!! If you open it and it is good – they will come. You go Patrick, you are talented, young and creative. Go for your dream – I’ll most certainly will join you as a diner when you open.

Opening a restaurant in that location is proof that hope always wins out over reason. Nothing has survived there more than two years except the brothel. Keep your money in the bank until you find a location where there are enough people to buy the wonderful food you make. It will just wear you out and leave you in debt.

Please correct the blog! It should be restaurantp30.blogspot.com
    thanks!
(and we are not too worried about luck here….that has nothing to do with it).

That’s a rough location, I wish him all the luck in the world, he will need it.

While reading the description of what this restaurant was going to be, all I could picture was that video of him making fried chicken and dumplings. Way to get the inside scoop!! Can’t wait.
